Welcome to LIS 690 Student Teaching for Elementary Schools!
Some guidelines:
LIS 690 is student teaching in elementary schools. Schools must have at least k-5; pre-schools and middle schools are not appropriate
Student teaching placements are for 20 full days of work, or 120 hours (NY State defines a full day as 6 hours)
Cooperating LMS’s must be certified as an LMS for at least 3 years. Certification as an LMS is not the same as certification as a classroom teacher. It does not always coincide with graduation from an MLS program, so please be sure you are clear about this with your cooperating LMS.
Only ONE Pratt student may student teach per venue (if they have other ST’s from Queens or LIU, this is ok, but try not to overlap every day you work with that person). If you have a venue in mind, book with the LMS asap! And please let me know if you have a plan in place already.
If you are unsure where to turn for a placement, please email me. There are a number of LMS’s who work in great schools who would love to have a Pratt student.
